Stuck in the Whirl - "Alice in Bed" | VIOLET WANG Media: oil painting on canvas

After reading the play Alice in Bed I find myself feel the same way with this seemingly insane women in many aspects. She is smarter than most of the people; she is struggling with deep questions every day, but she is somehow not smart enough. She can’t escape from these thoughts; she is constrained by them. I’m a person with too many thoughts and sometime these thoughts can get out of control. In the midnight, they keep me from falling asleep. Thoughts grow and expand themselves. I believe, many people have experienced the feeling of being trapped in thoughts, so in this painting I tried to capture the motion of twirling thoughts and the helplessness of the person.

**Celebration of Death - "Moby Dick" | VIOLET WANG Media: oil painting on canvas?**

While I was reading Moby Dick, a paragraph attracted my attention. It was discussing people’s fear for death. Why are we afraid of death? If people will go to paradise after they die then why do we feel sad for those who die? Are we sure that the world after death is worse than the world we live in right now? I don’t have answers but I know that a long time ago, the biggest events were held to celebrate the death of imperials, to celebrate that they can stay with their gods and were exempted from all kinds of diseases and sorrow afterwards, but why don’t people do this now? Maybe we can treat death in a new way, to accept it, and embrace it.

These two works are in one series. More specifically, these are part of my AP 2D concentration. In my concentration, I try to transform my mundane life to lustration design with the combination of Chinese ink painting and pen drawing. Because I am going abroad to college next year, I want to use this chance to observe and record my life. I omit a lot of details. Through ignore the environment, I want to emphasize people motion and leave audience the rest to their imagination. And I write some calligraphy in each picture. This Chinese traditional calligraphies can help me explain the work and they can also be a part of the painting.

**Time and Space | ?KJO ZHUANG Media: medal powder, ink**

Time and space evolve together. I used different metals to represent the passing of time; because metals rust over time to create various timeworn colors in different stages on the canvas. The painting literally and organically grows in time just like every creature does on earth.

Circle | DEE CHEN Media: plaster

In this artwork, I create many separated plaster units of female perineum and arrange them into a circle, and keep the original color of the plaster, white. In my understanding, white means something simple and pure, but also complex and deep at the same time, just like the existence of women in the current society. I use the most intuitive way to reflect the fact that women's sexual temptation to men will never end, just like a circle. The circle also represents the ability of women to create new life.
