STUDENT LEADERSHIP

At Vanke Meisha Academy, we commit to discover the leadership potential of each and every student. We hope to cultivate well-rounded VMAers who will possess a spirit of community care. We want our students to be not only creative in their manner, but also globally competent to face the challenges of tomorrow. In order to do this, we have developed a network of student organizations since our inception including Student Union, Prefects, House Councils and VMA Student Ambassadors.

We actively encourage every VMAer to become an outstanding leader with high execution skills. We focus on their unique strengths and personality to stimulate their creativity. Our belief is that each student club is a learning platform that helps students balance their personal development through collaboration. At VMA, we provide student leadership trainings for most if not all student leaders who are deeply involved in their extracurricular activities. We believe that every child should be able to clearly recognize his or her leadership abilities. They should also develop coordination and communication skills to improve the activities within their own student clubs.

Within these clubs, students are given the autonomy to make their own decisions, as they are responsible for not just reaping the rewards, but also accept consequences that may occur. It is through this responsibility that they will learn that freedom to make decisions is a privilege and giving it makes them own their outcomes.

But all of this does not mean teachers are excluded from our students’ community life. On the contrary, we regularly provide leadership trainings for student clubs that are deeply involved in all aspects of students’ learning and extracurricular activities. We encourage all students to make the most of their strengths and contribute to improving the society and themselves every day. It is only by learning to create and collaborate together that students will learn how to become active listeners, effective communicators and learn to work towards the same goals, while balancing our their personal interests and collective good.

Student Union
The Student Union are representatives for the whole student body. Student Union members listen to issues and concerns about the school and propose solutions for the benefit of all other students at VMA.

Since the inception of Vanke Meisha Academy, the Student Union was created to give voice to students by maintaining a dialogue with school administration and leaders. They also oversee the formation of all clubs and help ensure each club’s quality for the benefit of all students. The Student Union regularly create activities for students and staff to come together as a community and engage in meaningful issues or actions.
Prefects
The prefects are student mentors for all freshmen at VMA. Each year, we encourage students to pass on the school spirit to the next generation by taking on roles as prefect. These prefects actively participate in our school’s cultural development activities such as helping seniors and freshmen to form a cohesive learning environment and building lasting friendships with everyone.

Developed since the second year of VMA, the prefects serve as role models and guides for Grade 10 students. They are responsible for the freshmen orientation and are usually the friendly familiar faces that prospective students see. Throughout the year they will guide the freshmen through their academic and social life at VMA. To provide further support, the Prefects organize and run a peer tutor program that is available for all students year round. The Prefects also run activities through the year that enriches the school culture for all students.
House Council
House Councils are the representatives and organizers for each house. Created in the second year of VMA, they represent and lead each house. House Council assist House Leaders in all house activities. Each House has their own unique characteristics which they demonstrate at school activities throughout the year.

House Councils are responsible for helping organize and run all intramural sports tournaments and activities that lift up the school spirit. Council members will also run intra/inter-house activities that further develop and enrich their existing house spirit to build a sense of belonging for students in their respective houses.
Student Ambassadors
Student Ambassador is an official student club of VMA that promotes the school to all guests and prospective students and parents.

As the diplomatic body of Vanke Meisha Academy, student ambassadors aim to be the bridge that connects VMA students, college admissions officers and VMA Admission Office. They are constantly practicing and improving their communication skills through various events, such as open day sharing/speeches, Q&A sessions, incoming admission officers' visits to VMA, etc. These events open up opportunities for them to hone their communicative and collaborative skills. Diplomatic events asides, VMA Student Ambassador also provides plenty of opportunities for ambassadors to explore and develop their management of media, visual design and editorial skills.
